CAO has traveled where no other cigarmaker has traveled before to bring you the CAO Amazon Basin, a cigar made with rare tobacco from Braganca, a remote region in the Amazon forest. For the second time CAO Amazon Basin makes its entrance to the market.
The first time was in 2014 before making its return in 2017. Only a small batch rare tobacco, which is grown and harvested only once every three years, from a remote region in the Amazonian Rainforest can be used for this inspirational Limited Edition, CAO Amazon Basin.
Rick Rodriguez: “We had the opportunity to use Amazonian tobacco before anyone else in the world. The first batch was received so well that we knew we had to make efforts to grow this unique tobacco again. The first time we really liked the flavor, aroma and blendability, something that returned again with this new, small batch. The flavor is very unique — earthy and nutty with a pleasantly dry finish.”
Called “Bragança,” the tobacco is organically grown on unspoiled tropical land and harvested just once every three years. Seedlings are transplanted directly into the soil a full yard apart from each other, resulting in less than half the yield of other tobacco plants.
The leaves are rolled by hand into tubes called “carottes” where they undergo six months of natural fermentation. They are then transported out of the rainforest by canoe, taken to the mainland, and ultimately brought to the CAO factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.
There, CAO’s blenders allow the aromatic Bragança leaf to take center stage, surrounded by tobaccos curated from four different countries. Sheathed in a hearty Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper from the highest primings, a Nicaraguan binder and leaves from Colombian and Dominican Republic as filler, CAO Amazon Basin tastes as exotic as the tropical rainforest from which it originated.
This medium-bodied CAO World Blend boasts notes of caramel sprinkled with briny nuances for an adventure into the unexpected.
CAO Amazon Basin (6 x 52 / L 152 mm, Ø 21 mm) is now available in 18-count rustic boxes that allow the cigars inside to take precedence.
Wrapper: Ecuadoran Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Republic, Colombian, Brazilian Braganca
